The Performing Arts Academy, part of the Blaine County School District’s Academy Program, is a two-year program for high school junior and seniors. The curriculum, taught by professionals from the performing arts, prepares students for either college or a career in that field.
The program is designed to educate participants in all aspects of theatre. The first year concentrates on an overview of backstage and onstage jobs. During this time, students participate as interns with local companies and other professionals in the field to experience first-hand acting, movement, design, and management. The second year of the program gives students an opportunity to specialize in one particular aspect of the performing arts.
Students interested in exploring the career opportunities in the field of performing arts may qualify for the academy if they have maintained a good attendance record in high school, are willing to commit to taking one class per day each trimester during their junior and senior years, are willing to commit to 15 lab hours per year, and will commit to 40 technical hours their first year and 50 technical hours their second year in the program.
