Since its inception in 1997, Company of Fools has contributed to the rich cultural life of the Wood River Valley. Today, the Company creates dynamic year-round work for the stage while providing arts-in-education programming for grades K through 12. Governor Dirk Kempthorne bestowed upon Company of Fools an Excellence in the Arts Award in 2004, recognizing its work as having “a clear vision, a common point of view and a specific approach to the acting process.” The Company, which just celebrated its 10th anniversary season, is also noteworthy for having become the first theatre in Idaho’s history to receive Constituent Theatre status from Theatre Communications Group (the national organization for the professional, nonprofit American theatre).
Company of Fools’ programming provides its community with the opportunity to experience great stories that explore “the human heart.” Past productions have included “True West”, “The Laramie Project”, “Side Man”, “Always…Patsy Cline”, “Shirley Valentine” and “The Man Who Came to Dinner”.
The Company’s educational programming opens the door for incorporating the creative process into the community. From adult acting classes to “Stages of Wonder” (grades 1 to 5), every educational program seeks to celebrate the creative child in all of us.
Company of Fools performs at the beautiful Liberty Theatre located on Main Street in Hailey, just 11 miles south of Sun Valley. The Liberty Theatre is a circa 1930’s movie house that has been thoroughly renovated into an elegant, fully equipped theatre.
